Couples Cooking

Take your date on a unique cooking adventure as you are guided through creating your own meal and then enjoying it. Couples will work together to prepare a healthy delicious meal that can also be prepared at home. This class is limited to 8 couples.

Acrylic Painting

Students will explore color theory and building a composition while gaining experience using a variety of painting techniques. 

Westover Annex Classes

Aerobics

This class incorporates exercises from Hi/Lo Aerobics, Kick boxing, Zumba, Zumba Step and many current formats.  Class starts with a warm up and muscle stretching, a bell curve main class, and follows with core conditioning and muscle stretching, 

Pilates

The class is structured to accommodate from beginner to advanced.  This is a group setting were Pilates mat exercises are taught.

World Foods

Investigate and explore flavors of other cultures.

The instructor will discuss topics such as food choices and how it affects your physical well being and appearance.  The instructor will talk about how diets and different foods can change your emotional state.  The students and instructor will work together to create the meal for the night, which includes eating the final product.  The classes meet for 2 weeks with different recipes each night.

Beginning Fly Tying

MTEC hosts Trout Unlimited to teach a class that focuses on fishing and creating your own fly to catch the "big on."  The class will meet in the spring for ten weeks.  Each session begins with a 30 minute demonstration and explanation of the fly and what it imitates, followed by 1.5 hours of tying.

The course focuses on: Learning the basics of fly construction and design, Learning how to tie important dry and wet flies, Becoming familiar with the naturals these flies imitate, Having fun and using these files to catch trout.

Tool kits and materials are provided, however the student may use their own.

Mountainview Elementary Zumba Classes

Zumba is a Latin infused dance aerobics class, mixing dance and fitness.

Zumba Toning is based on the Zumba format and includes use of lightweight Maracas, toning sticks, or hand weights.  This class focuses on working your core muscles, a perfect mix of cardio and toning exercises.

 

 

Beginning Digital
Photography

If you own a camera would like to take more impressive photos and also have no idea what all those buttons do, then this class is for you!

You will learn about the different settings available as well as what each one does. A few of the topics are aperture priority, shutter priority, white balance, ISO settings, metering, auto-focus settings, shutter settings, and using the camera’s flash.

This course also looks at rules of composition and creative technique.  In addition, it will cover file transfer, digital storage, and types of photo editing.

Students will need to provide their own camera that had manual mode capabilities.  The course is held for two hours, one night a week for five weeks. 

Gentle Yoga is an all-levels movement class that begins with a few minutes of centering and breathwork, and gradually builds energy through stretching and flowing poses. We work on balance and strength through alignment and mindful transitions. Modifications are provided as needed, while experienced yogis are encouraged to explore advanced versions of poses as desired. We conclude each class with gentle stretching and a relaxing resting pose. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to reduce stress, clear their mind, and maintain a healthy body. All are welcome! Please bring your own yoga mat and any other props you like to use (strap, block(s), blanket(s), bolster, eye pillow, etc.) Props are not required, and can be acquired as the course progresses.

 

Intermediate Digital Photography

Building on the information learned in the beginning digital photography class, we will expand on the use of the manual mode.  The participants will revert to basic manual photography to understand and utilize the creative techniques available through the manual setting of aperture, shutter speed and ISO.  We will explore depth of field, long exposure, lighting (artificial and flash), and filter effects.  Students can also request other creative techniques to be covered.  In the final class, we will take a photo field trip (if the weather permits) to use our new skills around the town.

A tripod is needed for some sessions. If you do not have one, there are a few that can be shared. The course is held for two hours, one night a week for five weeks.

 
 

Crochet/Knitting

At the end of the session, as a beginner, you will know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off.  The teacher has the beginning student start off making a dish cloth to learn the basics and then there are many projects to choose from after that initial project.  

This class is for anyone who is stuck or needs a little help on a project they are working on or starting.  The main goal is to have fun while creating and making whatever project you choose.

 
 

Drawing Portraits

This class will focus on portraits but anyone can come to learn how to draw what interests you the most.  Display with pride the drawings or portraits you create from this class.  You will learn the different techniques to create your own one of kind drawing.

We have a variety of students from the beginner to the advanced and the teacher is more than willing to help anyone learn.  Our hope is to put you on the path to become the artist you would like to be.  The teacher has the experience to help with advanced techniques of drawing for the learner that has more experience than most.

 
 

Hand Building Clay Art

"Handbuilding" is working with clay by hand using only simple tools, not the pottery wheel. If you are ready to get down and dirty, you will be creating beautiful clay forms using your hands, fingers, and basic hand tools. The three most common forms of creating hand built pots: pinchpot, coiling and slab techniques.

 

 
 

Oil Painting

In the oil painting class students will learn some information about composition, perspective, and mixing of colors.  The students will also receive personal instruction from the teacher while taking this class.

Make sure you bring something that you may want to display for the community to see.  There is a local art expo in town and students are encouraged to take their ar work to be an exhibit.

 
 

Picture Framing

This class is for the beginning framing student all the way to the advanced framing expert.  The class is designed to be self-paced so students can learn no matter what skill level he or she may have in the this subject.

The first class explains and demonstrates the basics of framing a picture.  After that, you work on your own framing project with guidance from the teacher.  There are two instructors available to help you with any questions you have while constructing your frame.

 
 

Sewing

Don't worry if you are a beginner or an advanced student there is something for everyone while learning how to sew and mend garments.  You will learn the basics of the trade while making your own projects such as a tote bag.  Once students have advanced, he or she can move on to their own projects with guidance from the teacher.

 
 

Stained Glass

You are going to learn the basics of glass cutting and the copper fail method to make a piece of art.  The first class is a basic class with the students finishing a panel from a choice of five patterns.  Once the students have learned the basics, they can work on self-directed projects with the help of the instructor.

Stained Glass Mosaic

This class will focus on the glass and grout method of mosaic to make your art pieces.  The students can make items such as garden items, trays, boxes, lamps, etc.  Glass scraps will be provided for free.
