Automotive Technology (900 Clock-Hour Certificate)
Automotive Technology is a 900-hour program designed to prepare students to work as entry-level service technicians in the automotive and related mechanical industries. In addition to engine concepts and performance, instruction includes brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, and heating/air conditioning. Students are acquainted with alternative fuels such as propane, natural gas, ethanol, methanol, synthetic fuels, biodiesel, hybrid electric and hydrogen. Upon completion of the program, students will have acquired one year of experience toward ASE certification.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in:
- SkillsUSA Club (America’s largest student co-curricular organization)—attending and participating in business-style meetings and competing in skill-related contests.
- Students also have the opportunity to join in with other students to raise funds for their various activities. Past events included Longaberger Basket Bingo, Buckwheat Festival, serving concessions at WVU functions.
